The work captures a group of figures engaged in the preparations for the end of the year, a period traditionally associated with cleaning, settling debts, and preparing for the arrival of the New Year. The figures are dressed in patterned kimonos, their forms rendered with the elongated proportions characteristic of Chōki's style.
The composition is balanced, with the figures arranged in a cluster that suggests movement and interaction. The artist employs a muted palette, relying on soft reds, greys, and earthy tones to define the garments and the surrounding objects. The use of line is precise, delineating the folds of the fabric and the facial features of the subjects with clarity.
