Jean Arp, a founding member of the Dada movement, maintained a lifelong interest in the role of chance in artistic creation. This work, titled Hasard, demonstrates his commitment to organic abstraction. The composition features three irregular, dark forms suspended against a stark, high-contrast yellow background. These shapes possess a biomorphic quality, suggesting natural growth or cellular structures rather than rigid geometric construction.

Arp often utilised the concept of chance to bypass conscious control, allowing forms to emerge through spontaneous arrangement. By dropping paper shapes onto a surface, he sought to remove the artist's ego from the creative process. This print reflects that methodology, presenting forms that appear to have settled into their positions through gravity and accident.
