Giovanni Battista Pittoni, a Venetian master of the eighteenth century, produced this work during the height of the Rococo period. At the centre, the Virgin Mary holds the Christ Child, her gaze directed toward a devout woman kneeling below. Pittoni employs a palette of soft, luminous tones, favouring pale blues, ochres, and muted reds to create a sense of ethereal atmosphere. The drapery of the figures exhibits the characteristic loose, painterly handling that defines Pittoni's mature style.

To the left, a saint holding a crozier gestures toward the Virgin, while an angel nearby cradles a lamb, a symbol of sacrifice. Below, the kneeling woman is presented by an angel, her posture one of humble supplication. The inclusion of a small altar with a smoking censer at the bottom left adds a tactile, earthly element to the otherwise heavenly vision. The artist balances the complex arrangement of figures with a masterful use of light, which emanates from the upper register to illuminate the faces and gestures of the participants.
