Description
The monk Genno stands beneath the split Killing Stone as Tamamo-no-Mae’s pale nine-tailed spirit rises from the long-poisoned rock, while split Killing Stone and rising nine-tailed spirit sharpen this particular moment.
A later tradition carries Tamamo-no-Mae beyond the hunt. Her body or spirit becomes the Killing Stone on Nasu moor, a place whose poison destroys creatures that approach until the monk Genno confronts and pacifies the curse.
This contemporary interpretation makes the aftermath monumental rather than decorative. The monk is small beneath an immense cracked boulder, ash-violet sky opens around the pale spirit, and old gold accents turn release into a final image of danger transformed rather than simply erased. In The Killing Stone Broken, split Killing Stone and rising nine-tailed spirit establish the ash violet old gold rhythm assigned to scene 4.
