This is a detail from Raphael's fresco, *The Triumph of Galatea*, painted c. 1512, located in the Villa Farnesina, Rome. Raphael, born Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, was a leading figure of the Italian High Renaissance, celebrated for his mastery of form, composition, and classical ideals. He is grouped in the traditional trinity of great masters of that period, along with Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. The fresco depicts Galatea, a sea nymph from Greek mythology, riding a shell-chariot pulled by dolphins. She is surrounded by a retinue of sea creatures, tritons, and other mythological figures, all rendered with dynamic movement and classical grace. This detail captures the energy of the scene, with figures intertwined and expressions of joy and exuberance. The colour palette is characterised by soft, muted tones, typical of frescoes, with a focus on the human form and its idealised representation. The composition is complex, with figures arranged in a swirling, almost circular motion, creating a sense of depth and dynamism.
