This abstract composition by El Lissitzky features geometric forms and Cyrillic text, reflecting the Constructivist aesthetic of the early 20th century.
El Lissitzky (1890-1941) was a Russian artist, designer, photographer, typographer, polemicist, and architect. He was an important figure of the Russian avant-garde, helping develop Suprematism with his mentor, Kazimir Malevich, before his subsequent work as a proponent of Constructivism. He experimented with production techniques and stylistic devices that would go on to dominate 20th-century graphic design. 'There is Over' presents a dynamic composition of geometric forms. A red square dominates the visual field, seemingly intersecting with a black circle and casting linear shadows. Softly graded grey shapes create a sense of depth and movement, while a smaller black square floats in the upper right. The composition is balanced by text in Cyrillic script at the bottom, adding a layer of linguistic and cultural context to the abstract arrangement. The work exemplifies Lissitzky's exploration of space, form, and typography, reflecting the Constructivist aesthetic of the early 20th century.
