Kishi Chikudō was a prominent painter of the late Edo and early Meiji periods, known for his technical precision in depicting animals. This work, rendered in ink and light colour on silk, demonstrates the artist's ability to capture the anatomy and temperament of the tiger. The composition spans a six-panel folding screen, a format that allows for the expansive, horizontal presentation of the subjects within their environment.

The tigress occupies the centre of the composition, her gaze directed towards the viewer with a sense of alertness. A small cub rests against her flank, providing a contrast in scale and posture. The artist employs subtle ink washes to define the musculature and fur patterns, avoiding heavy outlines in favour of a more naturalistic approach.
