Michelangelo's fresco of Achim and Eliud, part of the Sistine Chapel ceiling, depicts figures from the genealogy of Jesus with sculptural forms and a muted colour palette.
This fresco depicts Achim and Eliud, figures from the genealogy of Jesus as presented in the Gospel of Matthew. It forms part of Michelangelo's extensive decoration of the Sistine Chapel ceiling, commissioned by Pope Julius II. Executed between 1508 and 1512, the frescoes represent scenes from the Old Testament, along with the ancestors of Christ. These figures are painted in the lunettes, the semi-circular spaces above the windows. Michelangelo employed the technique of fresco, painting directly onto the wet plaster of the ceiling. The composition shows two figures, Achim and Eliud, accompanied by children. To the left, an older man with a beard sits with his arms crossed, while a child stands beside him. On the right, a woman sits on a stool, with a child behind her. A tablet between them bears the names 'Achim' and 'Eliud'. The figures are rendered with a sculptural quality, typical of Michelangelo's style, and are set against a neutral architectural background. The colour palette is muted, with tones of peach, grey, and ochre.

Real reviews from real customers
Had his nose broken by a classmate at thirteen, carved David from a marble block two other sculptors gave up on, and painted the Sistine ceiling standing up.
