Description
At an old temple that seems to emerge from the night, a white-haired hostess welcomes O-sode and her family with impossible recognition, while white-haired hostess and O-sode with the infant sharpen this particular moment.
In the selected Okazaki kabuki tradition, the travellers seek shelter at an old temple and meet a white-haired woman who recognises O-sode as her daughter and the infant as her grandchild. The welcome offers relief, but its intimacy is impossible and the building itself feels detached from the ordinary road.
This contemporary interpretation looks down through the threshold as the family enters. Charcoal timber encloses purple robes and one concentrated lantern-red, while a watching cat in the rafters turns hospitality into the first warning. In The False Reunion, white-haired hostess and O-sode with the infant establish the charcoal purple lantern red rhythm assigned to scene 1.
